Closing arguments got underway today in the murder trial of a local couple accused of killing a toddler. Gladys Perez and Marc Colon face charges of murder, child abuse, and child neglect for the death of Perez's three-year-old daughter, Crystal Figueroa. The girl was found beaten to death in a dumpster at the Villa Cordova apartments back in January 2006. The jury is expected to begin deliberating by the end of the day. On Friday, a psychiatrist testified for the defense that Perez was suffering from battered woman's syndrome. If convicted, Colon faces the death penalty while Perez could get life in prison.
