Former State Senator Raymond Shaffer has died. The announcement of Shaffer's death on Saturday was made yesterday at a meeting of the Legislative Committee on Energy. A Democrat, he represented North Las Vegas and served in the Senate from 1985 to 2003. He was Senate Majority Whip in the 1991 Legislature. Shaffer had also sought the job of state treasurer in 1990, but Republican Bob Seale won in the general election. Shaffer was 76 years old.
