Health Scare: CDC Report Released

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a report on its investigation of the hepatitis scare at the "Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada." The report urges better education, surveillance and oversight at the state and local level to prevent a similar problem in the future. The CDC plans to release a more detailed report in the near future. So far, at least 84 cases of hepatitis C have been linked to the now-closed "Endoscopy Center," due to alleged unsafe medical practices such as reusing syringes and medicine vials. In all, some 50,000 former patients at the clinic have been urged to get tested for hepatitis and HIV as a precaution. The CDC report can be viewed in its entirety at health.nv.gov.
