The investigation into the hepatitis scare surrounding a local clinic will continue for several months. That's the word from Brian Labus with the Southern Nevada Health District. On Thursday, the health district announced 77 more people may have contracted hepatitis C from the "Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada." That's in addition to the eight acute cases of hepatitis C already associated with the clinic. Those numbers are based on interviews conducted with about 400 people who tested positive for hepatitis and were patients at the Endoscopy Center between March 2004 and January 11th of this year. But many of those individuals had additional risk factors, such as IV drug use or sexual contact with a hepatitis carrier, so it's unclear if their infections were linked to the clinic. The Endoscopy Center has been shut down since February, when it was revealed that the clinic engaged in unsafe medical practices, such as reusing syringes and vials of medicine. Two of the doctors who own the clinic have had their medical licenses suspended, pending the investigation.
