Investigation Continues Into Bus Crash

The investigation is continuing into Sunday night's shuttle bus crash that left 29 Herbst Gaming employees injured. Initial signs are pointing to a tire problem that led to the accident on I-15 and St. Rose Parkway. An executive with the insurance claims adjuster for AWG Charter Services tells the "Review-Journal" initial evidence points to, quote, "some kind of tire problem or malfunction." Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Kevin Honea confirms initial evidence of tread separation on one of the bus tires, but says it's too early to rule whether it caused the accident. Authorities say the bus was heading north on the freeway when it veered toward a concrete divider and hit a metal guard rail before coming to a stop in the median. Three people remain hospitalized at University Medical Center with various injuries. This past January, another Herbst employee bus crashed and burst into flames just north of Primm. About two dozen workers were hurt, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.
