Fellow officers and neighbors are mourning the murder of an off-duty Metro Police officer in North Las Vegas. Thirty-year-old Officer Trevor Nettleton was shot and killed during a robbery attempt, when multiple suspects broke into his garage near Washburn and 5th Street early Thursday morning. Police say Nettleton was not in uniform and they believe the shooting was random. Nettleton had been on the police force for three years and received a commendation for saving lives during a fire in 2007. Three suspects have been arrested for the shooting. Eighteen-year-old Prentice Marshall suffered non life-threatening gun shot wounds, but was released from UMC early Friday morning. The second and third suspects, 20-year-old Saul Williams Jr and a 17-year-old unidentified male, were already booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center. All three face charges of murder and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery, plus gang enhancements.
Governor Jim Gibbons ordered all flags at the Capitol and state buildings flown at half-staff on Friday in honor of Officer Nettleton. In addition, the Injured Police Officers Fund (IPOF) has established an account for Officer Nettleton's family at Nevada State Bank, account #602027542.
