Bail Set For Accused NHP Trooper

A judge has set bail at $50,000 for the Nevada Highway Patrol trooper charged in a deadly accident. Forty-six year-old Edward Lattin made his initial appearance in Justice Court Thursday morning. He was also ordered not to drive and to submit to random drug testing if he is released. Lattin was arrested Tuesday for the June 11th accident on Rainbow near Hacienda. Police say Lattin was speeding and driving erratically in his pickup truck when he smashed into another car, which hit a third car. A woman in the car he hit, 49-year-old Ying Warren, was ejected and died, while another person was injured. Officers initially believed Lattin had a diabetic episode that triggered the crash. But blood test results revealed he had marijuana in his system at the time. Lattin's attorneys claim he only had a trace amount of the drug in his system, and they plan to fight the charges.  He faces a felony count of drug-related DUI, and is on administrative leave from the NHP.  Lattin is due back in court July 22nd.
