New Report on Kyle Canyon Plane Crash

A preliminary report on last month's deadly Kyle Canyon plane crash says the pilot did not file a flight plan before the accident. According to initial findings by the FAA, the Piper Cherokee fueled up at the North Las Vegas Airport on the afternoon of June 28th, then took off. More than half an hour later, the small plane crashed into a mountainside near the residential area of Echo Canyon Lane, west of Las Vegas. The FAA says the plane's right wing hit a foot-wide tree trunk about 40 feet above the ground, before crashing and burning. A final report on the accident is expected in several months. The plane crash killed California residents Erik Nunn, his wife Tanya, and their neighbors Craig and Michelle Wilson. The four had flown to Las Vegas to celebrate their respective wedding anniversaries and were heading home when the crash happened.
