New York Owners Win Plaza Name Fight

The company that owns the Plaza Hotel in New York City has won a legal fight to use the name on its new property here in Las Vegas. The New York-based Elad Group is planning the new resort on the former site of the New Frontier, to be patterned after the Plaza in New York. But Elad was sued by Tamares Las Vegas Properties, owners of the old Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. A Clark County District Court jury reportedly ruled in favor of Elad because of federal trademarks that allow the company to use the brand throughout the country. An Elad spokesperson says they plan to break ground on the project in early 2010 and open in 2012.
