State GOP Scraps Convention Plans

The Nevada Republican Party will not resume it's interrupted state convention as planned. State GOP chairwoman Sue Lowden says not enough people responded to invitations for the proposed July 26th gathering at Reno's Peppermill Hotel, so the party's executive board will likely appoint delegates to September's Republican National Convention. The state GOP gathering was halted April 26th, when organizers ran out of time before choosing national convention delegates. Nevada has 34 delegates to the national convention. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won Nevada's Republican caucus back in January, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul in second. Presumptive GOP Presidential nominee John McCain placed third.
