State Unemployment Rate Up

The economic slowdown and rising fuel and food prices is tarnishing the Silver State. The state Department of Employment announced late last week that the unemployment rate for Nevada jumped half a point, to six-point-two-percent in May, the highest jobless rate in 20-years. Nevada Senator Harry Reid recently released a statement lashing out at President George Bush and candidate John McCain saying, "It's time for a change from the failed Bush-McCain policies that have placed our country in the economic mess it is in today." Reid went on to say that "we must support our Nevada economy with energy reform to strengthen tourism and strong housing legislation to stabilize and kick-start Nevada's housing industry that supplies so many jobs in good times."
