Suspicious Package Causes Strip Closure

A suspicious suitcase found near the Bellagio fountains forced a portion of the Las Vegas Strip to shut down last night. Metro Police spokesman Jose Montoya says Bellagio guards discovered the abandoned suitcase around 10:30 p.m. Las Vegas Boulevard was closed in both directions between Flamingo and Harmon, and pedestrians were kept away from the area while the bomb squad checked it out. It turns out the suitcase was empty, and the Strip reopened to traffic just after 1 a.m.
