Despite this year's tougher standards, all Clark County public schools did better on the annual Adequate Yearly Progress grade that measures test scores, attendance and graduation rates. But preliminary results released by the school district Thursday show 185 schools made adequate yearly progress under the federal No Child Left Behind act, down from the 218 schools that showed adequate progress in the 2006-07 school year. This past school year, 66 schools landed on the state's watch list, up from 35 a year earlier. Still, the school district met 94-percent of its benchmarks, and is expected to as showing adequate progress for the second straight year. For the 2007-08 school year, two schools were listed as exemplary--Miller and Walker International Elementary Schools. Sixteen others were ranked as high achieving, while four schools--Tate Elementary and Bridger, Von Tobel and West Middle Schools--failed to meet the AYP standards for the sixth year in a row.
