Utah Governor Jon Huntsman believes his state's water supply won't used to help Las Vegas expand. Huntsman says he's optimistic the strategy used by his state and the counties will protect the water resources on the west side of Utah. He stressed that water is the lifeblood of the West and he will not allow Utah groundwater to be depleted. Earlier this month, state Engineer Tracy Taylor allowed the Southern Nevada Water Authority to build a pipeline that would bring over six-billion gallons of water from three valleys in rural Lincoln County to meet Las Vegas' growing demands. A good bit of the water in the aquifer they hope to tap lies under Utah, and scientists believe the plan might destroy the water supply of the West Desert. Several groups are already planning an appeal.
