Clark County Commissioners have approved a nearly $1.5 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The new budget is nearly 6% higher than the current general fund, but growth has slowed in the past year due to a sluggish economy and the state's budget shortfall. While the new budget avoids layoffs, some lawmakers are unhappy about the lack of funding to fix rural county roads and some buildings. About $71 million from the capital improvement fund had to be used to cover higher operating costs, leaving just $40 million for infrastructure projects. The new county budget takes effect July 1st.
