Poll Shows Slipping Popularity For Gibbons

The budget deficit and a messy, public divorce has not helped Governor Jim Gibbons' standing with Nevada voters. That's according to a new "Review-Journal" poll that shows just 21-percent of likely voters state wide think Gibbons is doing an excellent or good job in office. In December, 41-percent of voters thought Gibbons was doing at least a good job. Pollsters say the governor's handling of the economy and budget has brought down his rating. Nearly three out of four Nevada voters believe Gibbons is doing a fair or poor job as governor. When it comes to the governor's divorce from his wife Dawn, most Nevadans think it's a private matter. Sixty-three-percent of those surveyed in the "R-J" poll say the news media should keep out of the governor's divorce, while a third disagreed. The governor has filed to end his 22-year marriage, citing incompatibility.
