Clark County Schools Get Annual Progress Report

Clark County schools got their Annual Yearly Progress report from the federal government today. The AYP measures schools' compliance with the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Overall, the district was in compliance but there were fewer schools that met the federal standards. A total of 186 schools in Clark County were in compliance with the AYP, while 165 schools did not meet the standard. Last year, 216 schools made the cut, but district officials say they expected a decline because the federal standards were raised this year. Overall, 17 Clark County schools were deemed "high achieving," 66 were placed on watch lists, and 129 were classified as "needing improvement." The No Child Left Behind Act requires schools to meet annual targets in several areas, including test scores, attendance, and graduation rates.
