A disciplinary hearing for the doctor at the center of a hepatitis outbreak won't be held until early next year. The state Board of Medical Examiners has delayed the hearing for 58-year-old Doctor Dipak Desai until February 24th. The hearing was set to take place in September, but Desai recently suffered a stroke in California, which the board said prevented him from "any meaningful participation" to respond to the allegations. Desai's medical license remains suspended, as the investigation continues into nine hepatitis C cases linked to his now-closed "Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada" and the related "Desert Shadow Endoscopy Center." The health district found evidence of unsafe medical practices at both clinics, including reuse of syringes and medicine vials, which put some 50,000 patients at risk.
