Halverson Hearing Continues

The disciplinary hearing for suspended District Judge Elizabeth Halverson continued today, after a judge rejected Halverson's legal challenge. This morning, a federal judge heard arguments on a motion filed by Halverson, who claimed the hearing before the state Judicial Discipline Commission is a violation of her constitutional rights to due process. But the judge ruled there is not enough evidence to support Halverson's claim, and allowed the discipline hearing to resume. Halverson is facing a 14-count complaint for alleged judicial misconduct, including falling asleep in court, having improper communication with jurors, and creating a hostile work environment. She's been suspended with pay since the allegations first surfaced last July. Halverson is up for re-election against two opponents in next Tuesday's primary. Her disciplinary hearing is scheduled to last through Friday, with a decision by the commission due next week.
