Despite a drop in the number of holiday travelers this year, McCarran Airport is still getting a surge for the next few days. Airport officials expect more than 286,000 people to pass through between now and Monday. Those who are traveling by air this Thanksgiving holiday are advised to think and plan ahead. Those traveling with check-in luggage are asked to arrive two hours before flight time and check flight status ahead of time by calling the airline or going to mccarran.com. Travelers are also encouraged to take advantage of the new economy lot located near Tropicana and Paradise. Parking is also available in the remote lot on Gilespie near Warm Springs.
As for those traveling by car, they're in for relief this year with gas prices now near or below $2 a gallon in many places. AAA estimates some 310,000 Nevadans will travel at least 50 miles from home this Thanksgiving weekend, a 6% decrease from last year. Of those travelers, AAA says 81% will go by car.
