Winter has arrived early at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort. The recreation area on Mt. Charleston has opened on a limited basis, with one chairlift and trail available to visitors. Resort managers credit the cold nighttime temperatures and aggressive snowmaking efforts for the early start to ski season. This is earliest the resort has ever opened. It's open now through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., then on weekends only until more trails can open. More information is available at the resort's website, www.skilasvegas.com.
