Metro Corrections Officer Daniel Leach was killed in an accident on US. 95 southbound near Searchlight early Saturday morning. Police say it happened shortly before 6 a.m., when Leach's vehicle T-boned a dump truck hauling a trailer, after the truck crossed into his lane. Leach was driving a prison transport vehicle from the Clark County Detention Center to a facility in Laughlin when the crash occurred. The driver of the truck was not injuried and is cooperating with Metro's investigation. The 49-year-old Leach was a 25-year veteran of the force and is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
The funeral service for Officer Leach is Saturday at 10 a.m., at the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer, located on Reno Avenue, across the Strip from the Luxor. Following the service, Officer Leach will be laid to rest at the City Cemetery in Boulder City.
