It was a gala night for a new downtown hotel tower. The Golden Nugget held its grand opening celebration last night for its 150-million-dollar, 500-room Rush Tower. The last time a hotel tower was introduced in the downtown area was in 1989 when the Golden Nugget opened its Carson Tower. Mayor Oscar Goodman saluted Tilman Fertitta, of the hotel-casino's parent company Landry's Restaurants, for investing in downtown and for his commitment to complete the tower despite the poor economy. The new tower officially welcomed its first guests on Friday.
