A Las Vegas couple has been sentenced to three years probation for importing a tainted pet food ingredient that caused a number of dog and cat deaths across the country. According to the "Las Vegas Review-Journal", a federal magistrate in Kansas City also fined Sally and Stephen Miller a total of 10-thousand dollars. Their former import company, ChemNutra, was fined a total of 25-thousand dollars. Federal prosecutors say ChemNutra imported over 800 metric tons of tainted wheat gluten from China between November 2006 and February 2007. The gluten, which was later found to be tainted with melamine, was then sold to various pet food makers. The deaths of pets who ate the tainted food led to a massive recall of more than 150 brands of dog and cat food.
